El Potrero Chico features a paradise full of world class multipitch sport climbing ranging from 5.7 to 5.13d.  Dozens of 2000+ feet long routes are available.  Potrero Chico includes dozens of intermediate grade (5.10d and less) routes over a thousand feet long with unique summits.  Well over five hundred routes have been developed in this area.  Routes are available to fit the desires of the biggest safety geeks to the bravest of free soloists. 

El Potrero Chico is located in Hidalgo, Mexico about three hours across the border from Laredo, TX.  You can also fly into Monterrey, Mexico which is located thirty minutes from the park.  Louis, from Posadas, will pick you up and take you back to the airport for a small fee (see accommodations).

El Potrero Chico attracts one of the friendliest and most international climbing communities in the world.  Many individuals come down to El Potrero Chico alone and find partners when they arrive.  El Potrero Chico is a hot spot for extended stays and is becoming a popular retirement location for serious climbers.

The locals of Hidalgo are an inspiration for all of us.  The culture is relaxed, friendly and peaceful.  You can expect a cold beer waiting for you at the end of your long multipitch climb by a friendly local.  A little Spanish goes a long way in Hidalgo but is not required.
