El Potrero Chico - Rock Climbing - Spadout.com

Weather ranges from cool to extremely hot in El Potrero Chico.  Bringing enough water on long climbs is a serious matter in El Potrero Chico.  A hydration backpack will make life allot easier if you can afford one.

Temperatures and precipitation levels are ideal from November to May.  I have climbed in El Potrero Chico in the middle of the summer and is fine if you wake up early.  El Potrero Chico is a large valley and therefore the sun only hits all faces for about two hours.  I suggest taking a midday siesta during this time period.  Therefore you can always climb in the shade.

Headlamp or full moon nights provide excellent night climbing here.  The weather of El Potrero Chico is fairly stable but you need to be careful.  Thunderstorms due occur and lightening is a real concern.  Most bolt lines permit you to easily bail at any time though.  I recommend carrying a light rain jacket incase you have to rappel in the rain.

One final tip.  If you wake up and it is raining on your tent still go into the park.  There is a good chance it is not raining there (though it likely appears that it is from your tent).
